I just have to say that the Pioneer Valley Workers Center and the First Congregational Church in Amherst—and every person and organization connected with the Sanctuary In the Streets movement in our region is an inspiration for me and I know for so many.
I went Saturday to an Amherst gathering for Lucio Perez (pictured above with a colleague from the Workers Center) who is in sanctuary at the First Congregational Church.
I sat in a packed sanctuary listening to speaker after speaker including Lucio, his son, leaders in the ACLU immigration work, Congressman Jim McGovern, Workers Center leaders, and others speak about the ways that we must resist the brutality of the Trump administration—right here in western Massachusetts.
Here are three actions we can take locally:
- Learn more about and support the work of the Pioneer Valley Workers Center.
- A major focus now must be the passing of the Massachusetts Safe Communities Act. The action needed now is House-focused. This legislation will afford immigrants an measure of much-needed protection, and all of us will be better for living in a more just Commonwealth.
- And, regionally, there is a major march on Saturday, June 30, in Springfield. You can RSVP and/or see details here: https://www.facebook.com/events/2062048730703835/.
It’s time for us to be in the streets. See you there.
