In Campaign

In our countdown to the September 4 primary, it’s day 96.

But I want to focus on another date: Tomorrow, June 1. Tomorrow is “Wear Orange Day.” It’s sponsored by an amazing national gun safety group, Everytown.

People will wear orange to remember loved ones who have been killed by guns and to help build a movement for an end to senseless gun deaths—for a future free of gun violence.

One of the major campaigns I led at MoveOn was one to urge President Obama to pass an executive order on background checks. Everytown was a key ally. We worked hand-in-hand with House and Senate members, as well as with members of the Obama Administration. We leveraged strategic people power at every level of government to support the president’s bold action. And we won.

Massachusetts has some of the strongest gun safety laws in the nation and still we must do more. I’m so grateful to students nationally and in Massachusetts who are organizing to hold candidates and lawmakers accountable.

And I’m looking forward to a candidate debate on June 13 sponsored by the Pioneer Valley Students for Gun Control. More information about their efforts is here: https://www.facebook.com/events/967958216704468/

Hope to see you there.
